Fridays has always been Jamaican Night at Tropics Grill. The only thing that made a difference was that Allena, the former female lead vocals of Kuerdas, was with the band on the first Friday of 2009. She performed one full set which made the Jamaican Night totally different. When Kuerdas was just starting out, they used to play variety of music. There was no specific genre. Ally would perform alternative, famous love songs and some reggae songs in the first set, Jay Son would sing some ballads and popular love songs for the second set and Mark for the third set is tasked to perform pure acoustic reggae music. When the band decided to go full band, they chose one particular genre in which they want to be famous of. They chose reggae as their genre. Upon watching them perform on stage last Friday, it felt like I was transported to the time when Kuerdas was just starting out as musicians here in GenSan. Though everything worked in their favor compared to other bands here, winning major competitions and all that, everything wasn’t served on a silver platter for them.
Kuerdas bears the moniker “The No. 1 Reggae Band in SOCSARGEN”. And why not? Even before a reggae song hits the masses in the radio, the Generals have already been introduced to it courtesy of Kuerdas ![]()
