Save Up Enough Moolah ;-)

My mother and the Kuerdas Band major are both having problems with their weight. But that wouldn’t be so much of the problem if they could get a good amount of exercise daily. My mother had never tried going to the gym for a dose of daily exercise. My brother on the other hand had enrolled on one fitness class but inconsistency and failure to come for daily execise sessions had been the case for him.

Well, it shouldn’t have been such a fuss if we only have our own¬†exercise equipment. Our family friend had actually lend us one of their equipments. We were able to make good use of it. But since it was only lent to us, we needed to return it. We still would want to have our own. I am not too sure how much it costs, but it might be a little expensive. I think we have to save up enough if we ever wanted our own equipments at home.

For now, we’ve got to settle for a little bit of stretching without the machines ūüėȬ†

Kuerdas: Homegrown Talents of GenSan

You might wonder where has Kuerdas gone all this time? Oh well, Kuerdas is still here and not in the the Dallas Texas Hotels as what you have been thinking. Kuerdas is just a local homegrown talent of General Santos City which endeavors to be experts in their chosen craft- to perform reggae music to the best of their abilities. There are actually lots of people who have been encouraging Kuerdas to seek for greener pasture but then again, that is easier said than done.

I am keeping my fingers crossed though that one day, I won’t be contented to see Kuerdas based here locally but instead, they would try to broaden their horizon and widen their perspectives. With the kind of talent that they have, it is not impossible to be discovered ūüėČ

MM- The Tide Is High- Atomic Kitten

For the last Monday of January, the only song that keeps coming at the back of my mind the entire day is an old song that is originally sang in the 1960’s by The Paragons. As usual, the song having its reggae beat, was originally released in Jamaica. This song had actually been relegated to the sidelines not until newer renditions in 1980, 2002, and 2008 came up.

Blondie gave this song a reggae/ ska beat in the 80’s. Billie Piper revived the song in 2000 and in 2008, the British vocal trio Atomic Kitten made a superb rendition of the song. I love the Atomic Kitten’s version more. It might be because it became ¬†a little pop-oriented with the playing of the keyboards.¬†

Robinsons Mall in GenSan

One of the biggest malls in the country is set to operate tentatively come June 15, 2009 here in General Santos City. Robinsons Place is currently being constructed 24/7. The Generals are anticipating the mall’s full swing operation very, very soon. I can’t wait to go to the movies witn an entirely brand new atmosphere.

I was actually bragging about it to my Prince. I was telling him, once he comes for a visit here at home, we will be spending most of our time at the new mall. I am very sure the newest technologies like¬†POS¬†shall be available. People don’t need to fall in line in long queus. The highest technology of bar codes will surely be of huge help for the opening of the new Robinsons Place here in GenSan.¬†

Kuerdas is Back!

After more than a week of hiatus from regular gigs and out-of-town shows, Kuerdas is back! Kuerdas shall liven up the night via the Jamaican Night at Tropics Grill. Last week, some regular and avid followers were calling up the Band Major because Jamaican Night was cancelled. The band couldn’t push through with the performance because the bassist wasn’t around at the time. He was in Manila attending to some important and personal matters. The band had actually missed four big bookings and shows. Now that the bassist is back, Kuerdas is again preparing for some big shows out-of-town and the upcoming Kalilangan Festival in Gensan.

On The Look Out For New TV Stand

Since last year, I have been on the look out for a new¬†tv stand¬†that is just enough for the space in our living room. We have a big one now which I think is very impractical for us to have. That’s why I have been asking my mother to have it auctioned at a very reasonable and affordable price. She was able to find a prospective buyer but the thing is they shall be giving their payment on March. At least, someone is interested, hehe!

While I was on the mall last week, I saw that they are having a furniture sale that will be up and running until March of this year in time for their clearance sale. The first thing I checked was the tv stand. There were lots of designs to choose from! I saw one which looks very elegant and stylish and would make our living room very spacious. For a number of months now, this tv stand was the only one that caught my attention.

So I tasked my brother to come and see it for himself if he agrees with my taste, haha! Indeed, he agreed that it’s the best style he has ever seen. There are still a number of the same style that are available. I had it marked and I will have to purchase it come February ūüėȬ†

MM- Buffalo Soldier- Bob Marley

Finally, Kuerdas has decided to join Music Monday. And the first music that Kuerdas wants to share is Buffaloo Soldier originally sang and performed by Bob Marley and The Wailers. Marley wrote the song along with Noel G “King Sporty” in 1980. I personally love the song because of its upbeat ryhthm and everytime Kuerdas gets to perform this song on stage, the audience are all up to their feet.¬†
The danceable rhythm of the song is only the tip of the iceberg. The song actually have ¬†deeper meaning. Buffaloo Soldier refers to the “Blacks ” in the U.S. who fought in the Indian War in 1866. This was written as “Stolen from Africa, brought to America…”

Buffaloo Soldier is considered to be Bob Marley’s famous song. You’ve got to listen to this one:¬†

Bob Marley – Buffalo Soldier lyrics

Buffalo soldier, dreadlock rasta:
There was a buffalo soldier in the heart of america,
Stolen from africa, brought to america,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival.

I mean it, when I analyze the stench -
To me it makes a lot of sense:
How the dreadlock rasta was the buffalo soldier,
And he was taken from africa, brought to america,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival.

Said he was a buffalo soldier, dreadlock rasta -
Buffalo soldier in the heart of america.

If you know your history,
Then you would know where you coming from,
Then you wouldn't have to ask me,
Who the 'eck do I think I am.

I'm just a buffalo soldier in the heart of america,
Stolen from africa, brought to america,
Said he was fighting on arrival, fighting for survival;
Said he was a buffalo soldier win the war for america.

Dreadie, woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,
Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy!
Woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,
Woy yoy yoy yoy, yoy yoy-yoy yoy!
Buffalo soldier troddin' through the land, wo-ho-ooh!
Said he wanna ran, then you wanna hand,
Troddin' through the land, yea-hea, yea-ea.

Said he was a buffalo soldier win the war for america;
Buffalo soldier, dreadlock rasta,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival;
Driven from the mainland to the heart of the caribbean.

You Be the Judge

I deemed it best to post a photo of The Kuerdas Band Major. He has a losing battle at losing weight. The problem: self-discipline and determination. I personally think that he better lose some pounds. As a performer, I think he owe it to his audience. It would just be OK if he is a little taller and he has that weight. But unfortunately, he wasn’t blessed with the height. Going to the gym the last time out didn’t worked because he was inconsistent and complacent. Now you be the judge. Looking at the photo, does he really need to go to the extent of taking¬†Leptovox?¬†

Huge Challenge

I am in for a great challenge as of late. I don’t eat a regular meal at dinner. I only take in a biscuit and a cup of milk. Well, I needed to do this or else, my not-so-proportioned body will balloon like that of an obese freak! I really do not think I will be needing the¬†best weight loss pills¬†anymore.
By the way, Kuerdas is hoping it can still perform during the culmination of the Kalilangan Festival 2009 celebration on February 27. It is a huge challenhe that the band is still going to hurdle. The new drummer boy’s persistence and extra effort for the hours practicing the reggae beat is commendable! And they also got a new keyboardist!

I wish them goodluck and more gigs and bookings to come with the new committed members in the band.
